Chippewa County International Airport in Kincheloe will receive just under $1.5 million dollars in grant money for improvements. The United States Department of Transportation awarded the grant that will be used to repair runways and taxiways, including repainting markers. According to Tami Beseau, airport manager, in 2022, there were 48,000 passengers that used commercial service, which is only 1,000 less than their best year (2019).  Another 2,500 passengers from private aircraft also used the airport. Great progress is being made on the General Aviation Building Construction. Even with the harsh winter conditions, work continues. The new building will have a modern design that will allow operation expansion as well as increase efficiency for travelers. The terminal will have a separate screening area on the first floor for international flights and passengers while they are waiting for U.S. Customs clearance into the United States. The second floor will serve as the administrative office for the CCEDC and CIU airport management. Construction is scheduled to be completed in September of 2022.
