Morning Flights Returning July 2023

1.5M For Runway and Taxiway Repairs

Chippewa County International Airport in Kincheloe will receive just under $1.5 million dollars in grant money for improvements. The United States Department of Transportation awarded the grant that will be used to repair runways and taxiways, including repainting markers. According to Tami Beseau, airport manager, in 2022, there were 48,000 passengers that used commercial service, which is only 1,000 less than their best year (2019).  Another 2,500 passengers from private aircraft also used the airport. General Aviation Construction Update

Great progress is being made on the General Aviation Building Construction. Even with the harsh winter conditions, work continues. The new building will have a modern design that will allow operation expansion as well as increase efficiency for travelers. The terminal will have a separate screening area on the first floor for international flights and passengers while they are waiting for U.S. Customs clearance into the United States. CIU wants to remind you this holiday season to wait until you wrap your packages if you plan on taking them through security as a carry-on. Former General Aviation Terminal

Today we watched in excitement as the former General Aviation terminal was being torn down. Although it was bittersweet, we are ready for the new GA terminal construction to begin. General Aviation Terminal Reconstruction

CHIPPEWA COUNTY — The Chippewa County International Airport is receiving over $5 million in grant funds, as announced Friday afternoon. The U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding approximately $5,271,043 to the airport, which will be used for the reconstruction and expansion of the airport’s general aviation terminal building to improve operations and efficiency for travelers and baggage moving throughout the airport. Airport Update COVID-19

CHIPPEWA TRAVELERS – Thank you for hanging in there with us during these trying times. We wanted to update you on a few things at the airport. All flights to/from Chippewa continue to operate. In June there will be some flight time changes, but we will still be operating daily round trips to Detroit and Minneapolis. Other changes that have taken place over the past few months relate specifically to the potential life altering virus affecting our lives.
