CHIPPEWA TRAVELERS – Thank you for hanging in there with us during these trying times. We wanted to update you on a few things at the airport. All flights to/from Chippewa continue to operate. In June there will be some flight time changes, but we will still be operating daily round trips to Detroit and Minneapolis. Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) Increases Passenger Counts In 2019

County EDC Board Welcomes Mr. Jeff Hagan to Board of Directors

The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners during its Regular session on Thursday, January 2nd appointed Mr. Jeff Hagan as a Board of Director of the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Hagan will replace Mr. Kurt Perron who elected not to be considered for reappointment. In addition the EDC also welcomed the reappointment of Director’s Dan Dasho and Dr. Ralf Wilhelms to the County EDC Board for a 6 year term. Dr. Kimberly Muller Joins the Chippewa County EDC Board of Directors

The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners during its Regular session on Thursday, February 14th appointed Dr. Kimberly Muller as a Board of Director of the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation. Dr. Muller will serve the remaining term of Mr. Kevin White who resigned from the Board in December 2018. Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) Record Breaking Passenger Counts in 2018

The addition of the Minneapolis flight in November of 2017 has really paid off for the entire EUP and Algoma region. State Grant to Help Chippewa County Reuse Airport Buildings

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A state grant will help Chippewa County find new uses for vacant buildings at a former Air Force base in Michigan‘s Upper Peninsula. The Department of Environmental Quality has awarded $45,000 in brownfield funding to the Chippewa County International Airport. It will help the county’s Economic Development Corporation evaluate under-used buildings on the airport grounds and determine what types of cleanups and asbestos treatments are needed. Mid-Year Passenger totals at Chippewa County International Airport 6% greater than in 2017

Over 20,000 passengers flew to and from Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) through June 2018. This represents an increase of over 6% from 2017 totals to date. Passengers from both the US and Canada continue to utilize CIU for their travel needs. In November 2017, CIU added a flight to Minneapolis St. Paul which has provided passengers with many additional flight options, while continuing daily service to Detroit Metro. Runway Lighting Project

Chippewa County International Airport Completes Runway Lighting Project Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) recently completed a runway lighting modernization project.  New airfield lighting on Runway 10/28, the 5,000 foot crosswind runway, was upgraded to LED lights.  This upgrade will replace the current 19 year old lighting, reduce energy costs, and minimize future maintenance.  J.R. Delta Global Services at CIU Receives 2017 “Station of the Year”

“Delta Global Services” (DAL Global Services-DAL) a Delta Airline aviation services company at Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) was recently awarded 2017 “Station of the Year”.  Over seventy (70) North Central Region DAL teams were vying for this honor.  The criteria for this award is based on a daily score card of goals, which are expected to be accomplished for each flight.  These goals include, but are not limited to; passenger ticketing & check-in, passenger assistance, baggage handling, aircraft de-icing, fuel requests, monitor air/ground communications, and to log all “on time” events related to aircraft departure readiness.  The Chippewa County… Read More »

Over 44,000 passengers flew to and from Chippewa County International Airport in 2017, which is 3,242 more than 2016.  Passengers from both the US and Canada continue to utilize CIU for their travel needs.
